The Best DHEA For Vaginal Use

You may have heard people talk about DHEA supplements for women to boost sexual energy and you are perhaps wondering "what the heck is it all about?" How can DHEA help improve women's health? Where and how do you apply DHEA? How much DHEA should a woman take? These are some common questions about DHEA levels and supplementation but unfortunately, some of the things you may have heard may not be true, and this is why you need proper answers. We will be telling you everything you need to know about DHEA, including the best DHEA formula for your vagina (especially effective for postmenopausal women). Yes…those that are said to “bring back the good old times” to your love life. Let’s dig in, shall we?!

*Update* if you're having vaginal tightness and painful intercourse, the use of our DHEA creams may be supplemented with a vaginal stretcher or vaginal dilator set which is used to loosen it up down there.

What is DHEA?

For starters, DHEA otherwise known as the dehydroepiandrosterone, is a hormone produced by the adrenal gland which is situated just above your kidneys. It is the most abundant hormone in your bloodstream and it is known to be a precursor for male and female sex hormones, i.e testosterone and estrogen respectively, and is most commonly used for alleviating hormone imbalances related to aging and adrenal insufficiency. An increasing number of doctors are now recommending DHEA replacement

There are many benefits of DHEA, as it plays the role of keeping the sex hormones in optimal levels, which peak when you are in your mid-20s then decline with age resulting in low DHEA levels. This is one of the reasons why you were in your best game in your youth then off the game by the time you hit menopause.

Are DHEA Supplements Good For Women?

Studies have shown that the administration of DHEA can promote hormone balance and counter the effects of aging, improve mental health (improvements in mood), prevent unwanted weight gain while helping reduce body fat, reduce stress, regulate cholesterol levels, and is the precursor to the sex hormone in women - estrogen - to improve sexual function and wellbeing.

One study by Etienne-Emile Baulieu et al (1) did long term clinical trials pertaining oral administration of DHEA on elderly men and women between the ages of 60 and 79. The study was basically looking to establish if there were positive effects of using DHEA coupled by the negative effects if any. It was found that taking 50mg of DHEA daily not only has a positive effect on the way the skin looks but also on sexual drive, weight loss and increased bone density, particularly among women. As for the negative effects, no harmful effects were noted for the same dosage in this study.

That said, other studies have shown the side effects of DHEA in some people who were already at-risk or have certain preexisting health conditions - when taken in higher dosages (500 mg / day).

Occasional side effects also have included reduction in high density lipoprotein, or (HDL), increasing facial hair in some women, increased facial hair in women or hair loss, acne, mania, and heart palpitations, liver problems, high blood pressure and insulin resistance among others issues (2).

This is why as a rule of the thumb, caution has to be exercised when using DHEA supplements, keeping in mind that a good daily dose ranges between 20 mg and 50 mg daily depending on body composition.

Now, this brings us to the question of using DHEA for vagina. Does it do the magic in the realm of dryness, pain and general health of your vagina?

DHEA: Is it Good For Your Vagina?

If it's made of all-natural, bioidentical and organic ingredients, it's great for the vagina. You don't need a suppository, you can actually insert it manually into the vagina as often as once / day with a 20MG doseage cream like our DHEA 20 (which is all natural and organic).

*It should be noted that in order to assimilate DHEA through our cream you don't need to insert into the vagina. It's formulated as for topical bio-identical, transdermal use so it absorbs into the bloodstream through the skin.

One main problem facing older women is what is known as vaginal atrophy. In plain English, it entails symptoms such as vaginal thinning, drying and inflammation attributed to the decreased production of estrogen due to aging, which affects libido.  75% of women do experience these symptoms after menopause and naturally, women move to look out for the most palatable solutions to the problem. The most advertised options particularly as far as the pain and dryness are concerned, are the lubricating formula and OTC options, herbal therapies, estrogen therapies and other prescriptions, Kegel/pelvic-strengthening exercise and surgery. This is confusing, right?

The good news is that research now shows that DHEA could be the best option for dealing with vaginal dryness, pain and pelvic health matters. A study in this domain that was first published in The Menopause showed that elderly women who use DHEA as an alternative to estrogen supplementation have a significantly less vaginal thinning, reduced pain during sexual penetration and reduced vaginal dryness (3).

Gynecologists in the study also observed that DHEA delivered better results than non-hormonal options in the shape of moisturizers and lubricants which had short term effects on pain and dryness. The real beauty though is that the though DHEA vaginal formulas are hormonal in the way they work, their effects are primarily localized hence reducing their side effects.  DHEA is basically transformed into estrogens in the parabasal cells where they are turned to superficial cells. The action is pretty much limited to this cell and not circulated around other parts of the body.

Other studies have shown that locally applied DHEA is good for improving bone mineral density while there some that have shown that it can help with incontinence problems. This is owed to the fact that DHEA improves three key layers in the vagina in terms of strength-epithelium, lamina propria, and muscularis.

Now that you know a thing or two about the scientific side of DHEA vaginal creams, the next question is which DHEA formulas are best for vaginal use? Let’s sample a few of them.
